Ford Flathead V8 Generator Cover Speed Equipment Street Hot Rat Rod

This early finned generator cover was sand cast from cast iron by the H & H Mfg Co of Los Angeles California back in the later 1930's or so. It will really add a very interesting touch to your early Ford V8 restoration, street rod, race car or rat rod. As a mechanical engineer, I can't imagine how anyone could possibly expect a cast iron cover of any kind to help dissipate heat from the outside of a generator. Perhaps this item was made more for looks than for helping to cool the generator. It appears that this very unusual generator cover was made like an open can that slipped over the stock Ford flathead V8 generator from the back.

Please notice the interesting hoods that partially cover the connections at the back as well as most of the drive pulley on the front. This unit has a drive coupling instead of a drive pulley so it must have been directly driven with a gasoline engine or electric motor and perhaps used to charge car batteries a long time ago. I have removed the tattered wiring and amp meter since these photos were taken. This very scarce cover appears to be in excellent original condition with one exception. There is a 1" long by 1/4" tall curved chip out of the second fin from the front near the top of this unit.

That chip is located near the 11:00 O'clock position when viewing this unit from the front. A biker friend told me that any good motorcycle shop that works on Harley Davidson cycles would most likely be able to repair this damage by filling it in with a welder and then dressing the weld down with a grinder and file. If you know of anyone who specializes in this delicate type of repair, please let me know so I can add a note here. I hope to add more and better photos and more information to this listing soon.
