Stuart Twin Launch Steam Engine. This Twin Launch Engine was built by my great uncle. He was a WWII airplane mechanic and machinist in Chicago. Im posting four of his completed Stuart Model live steam engines. He had his own machine shop in his basement.
He built models all 25 years of his retirement. This engine was perfectly made in his home. He was a master at what he did.He ran this on air. There isnt any rust, and it works very well. He kept this on a shelf in his library as a piece of art.
It is painted cream , and is mounted on finished hardwood. He made cutouts on the bottom so you can see the pistons moving. There is a dot of red permanent marker on 4 spots, so you can track how one of the pistons moves the engine (you can see it in the pictures). When my uncle was a teacher, used this as a visual tool to teach his students a lesson about machines. The marker will come off very easily with a touch from a magic eraser. It is my hope that this engine will go to someone who will enjoy it as much as he did. This one is completed and has been barely used by an adult. The "Twin Launch" series of vertical steam engines is a popular type for use in model steam boats. These engines are a robust resign & if they are well engineered in the first place, will give great results in a model steam boat.
The Stuart Turner "Twin Launch" engines have 1 inch bore cylinders and are also slide valve engines. These Stuart "Twin Launch" engines are very powerful. Included are several publications that my uncle stored with this model a Live Steam magazine that talked about it, and a couple catalogs. They are all in good, used condition (kept on a shelf in his library). There is a photo of each cover included. Live Steam Magazine: Build Rudy Kouhoupts Fore & Aft Compound Engine , March 1988. Coles Power Models Catalog , 1986 (Picture of Triple Expansion Steam Engine). Look at the pictures and ask any questions you might have. I will do my best.
